Keynote by Edgar Franks, Farmworker Organizer, Community to Community
“The Legacy We Inherit: Luchando por una Vida AgroEcológica”
Edgar Franks organizes farmworkers with Community to Community Development (C2C) in Bellingham, WA. In his keynote, he will reflect on agroecology as a way of life and share their work to ensure the needs of migrant farmworkers are represented on the path toward food sovereignty.
Edgar serves as the Formación Cívica (Civic Engagement) Program Coordinator at C2C. Through the lenses of food sovereignty and farm worker justice, C2C is working to create a politically conscious intersectional base fighting for a local solidarity economy. Edgar currently represents the Western region in the national coordination of the US Food Sovereignty Alliance.

Accessibility Details:
Childcare Offered: Free childcare will be available for kids aged 2-11 from 6:30 - 9pm. Please include names and ages of children when registering.
Transit: We encourage people to carpool, ride their bikes, and take public transit to this event! Bus routes 48, 49, 70, 71, and 72 stop in front of the church.
Fragrance Free Request: For the health and safety of community members with chemical sensitivity, please do not wear perfume, use scented cosmetics, lotions, or hair products, or wear clothes that have recently been smoked in. There will be scent-free soap in the multi-stalled bathrooms. Read here for more info on how to be fragrance free.
Wheelchair Accessibility: The entrance on 15th Avenue is wheelchair accessible. The event takes place in the basement of the church, and there is an elevator from the entrance level to the basement. There is then a ramp leading from the elevator down to the dining room. Every effort will be made to ensure wheelchairs can access all tables. However, the space is tight, so we would preferred to be notified in advance to ensure we seat you at a table that is easily wheelchair accessible. Bathrooms are located near the elevators on both levels. The upstairs bathrooms are ADA compliant. The downstairs bathrooms are not fully ADA compliant, but may be wheelchair accessible.
Gender Neutral Restrooms: In order to provide a welcoming and inclusive space for trans folks and to make sure that everyone is comfortable and safe, all bathrooms will be gender neutral and have individual stalls.
Quiet Room: A quiet room will be available at the church where event participants can spend time in a quiet, calm setting away from noise, lights, and other stimuli.
CART Captioning: Unfortunately, we are not able to provide captioning this year. For hard of hearing people who wish to attend, please contact us to make arrangements.
Please contact CAGJ at 206-405-4600 or [email protected] for more information or with additional access needs.
