Thank you for considering joining us as a Table Captain at CAGJ’s 18th annual SLEE! Dinner on Saturday, October 19 2024.

Table Captains will fill a table for 8 guests this year. Table Captains purchase their guests’ tickets in advance, providing CAGJ with important seed funds for our organizing. Captains may also give their guests the option of purchasing their tickets individually. As a Table Captain for SLEE!, you are an important part of our work to build the local movement for food justice and food sovereignty! Table Captains are recognized in the program and on CAGJ’s website. Please feel free to contact [email protected] if you have any questions or would like further information.

Instructions

STEP ONE: Think of friends, family, and colleagues who believe in food and climate justice, multi-racial movement-building, international solidarity and transnational organizing, and Fair Trade – and who might want to learn more about CAGJ and enjoy a delicious, locally sourced meal. Tables are for 8 people.

STEP TWO: Invite your guests!

  • We’ve provided a sample email invitation at the end of this page
  • Ticketing link (if you’re not paying up front for your table): cagj.org/slee-2024/
  • Facebook event: coming soon!
  • Remember that many people take a bit of follow-up; if you haven’t heard from a guest within a week or two, give them a call or send a note to personally invite them to join you at your table.

STEP THREE: Let us know how you will pay for your table.

  • Option 1: Pay $400 – $2,000 up front to CAGJ (individual tickets are $40-$200). Table Captains provide essential seed money so CAGJ can cover the costs of organizing the gala. Please remember that the SLEE! Gala raises a significant portion of our annual budget each year. When considering the sliding scale, we ask you to please give graciously and accept our utmost thanks! Some Table Captains choose to be reimbursed by their guests, others don’t – that’s up to you. Please mail your check (so we don’t get charged a 3% credit card processing fee!), made out to CAGJ, to 1322 S. Bayview St., Suite 300, Seattle, WA 98144.
  • Option 2: Pay $40 – $200 for your own ticket and ask your guests to purchase their tickets individually. NOTE: If guests are purchasing their own tickets, please inform them to indicate that you are their Table Captain during the online ordering process. If they are sending a check to CAGJ, please note our address: 1322 S. Bayview St., Suite 300, Seattle, WA 98144.

STEP FOUR: Send your completed guest list, including names and email addresses, to slee(at)cagj.org by SUN October 12, 2024. We promise we will not share guests’ email addresses; we want to be able to send a reminder to all guests before the event with important details.

FAQs:

What happens if I can’t get enough people to come?

If you are unable to fill your table, we will open your table to other single ticket holders.

What will my guests get to do at SLEE?

  • Enjoy a delicious, locally sourced dinner, donated by our valued regional farmers and fishers.
  • Meet and engage with fellow activists, organizations, farmers, and food workers who are passionate about food justice, fair trade, and supporting local economies everywhere!
  • Bid on silent auction items donated by local businesses and community members.
  • Make a contribution to the dessert auction – handmade, locally produced desserts – and share your delicious winnings with your tablemates.

How will I be acknowledged?

We want you to know how much we appreciate you! As a Table Captain, you will be recognized in the event program and from the podium at the event. Additionally, if you are able to give at the $2,000 level and pay for your entire table beforehand, we will give you a quarter page ad in our event program.

WHAT DOES YOUR DONATION SUPPORT?

CAGJ depends on SLEE to raise essential funds for our local and transnational organizing for food justice and food sovereignty. What YOUR support enabled in 2024:

Food Sovereignty community education:

  • Embracing LOVE in the Food System is an six week intensive designed to reimagine the food system through the lens of food sovereignty. We ran our first offering this Spring, with a cohort of a dozen people ages 14-80 in Olympia. We will bring the program to Seattle this Fall!
  • Our new Food for Thought Book Club, where we analyze corporate control of the food system and develop ideas for how to build grassroots movements in resistance.

Movement building:

  • Through AGRA Watch, we are contributing to research and organizing against digital agriculture and the overreach of the Gates Foundation and AGRA in Africa, where they are strong-arming governments into writing new seed policies that undermine peasant farmers.
  • As a member of US Food Sovereignty Alliance, CAGJ participates in awarding the Food Sovereignty Prize, to counter the corporate-driven World Food Prize, (founded by the “father” of the Green Revolution, Norman Borlaug).
  • To keep the spirit of the 1999 WTO protests alive and to inspire another generation of activists, CAGJ will host a storytelling event to mark the 25th anniversary of the Battle in Seattle on N30 (Nov 30, 2024).
