Sunday May 1 is May Day: March with CAGJ!

March for Immigrant Rights! We’re All Workers!  Washington-Arizona-Wisconsin: The Same Struggle!

12:30 – Meet at corner of 20th & Jackson! March leaves from St. Mary’s Church at 1pm. Call Heather at 206-724-2243 if you can’t find contingent.
1:00: March with the CAGJ banner to Memorial Stadium (401 5th Ave. Seattle, WA 98109).
Help make this year’s May Day march the biggest in years!  CAGJ, WA Fair Trade Coalition and Witness for Peace NW will have a joint contingent in the May Day March, focused on making the connections between trade and immigration.  NAFTA & CAFTA impoverish communities and displace farmers from their land, forcing them to migrate to the US in search of more secure livelihoods.  For these reasons and more, CAGJ hopes you will join us this Sunday to help distribute leaflets in Spanish and English about the need to mobilize against pending US-Colombia, Panama and Korea Free Trade Agreements now!

Organized annually by El Comité Pro Reforma Migratoria y Justicia Social and the May 1st Action Coalition, this is one of the largest annual May Day and immigrant rights marches in the country! This year, as in others past, we continue to witness attacks against workers via budget cuts and against the basic right to organize collectively, the most visible of these attacks occurring in Wisconsin and throughout the Midwest. Likewise, ICE officials and state legislatures across the country continue an onslaught against undocumented workers and communities with absolute impunity. One such example was the recent drivers’ license bill in Olympia that was halted momentarily in early March.

The event will help promote the following demands from workers:

1. An immediate legalization of status for everyone
2. Respect to our immigrant communities and stopping repression
3. An immediate cease to the 287 (g), E-Verify Programs and Secure Communities Program
4. An immediate end of programs that break families apart, an end to dragnet raids and deportations en masse
5. An immediate end to subsidies for detention centers
6. The right to educational access for all students
7. Stop repression of trade unions and demand the freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining.

And continue to make the connections at CAGJ’s May Food Justice Project Meeting!
