We had a blast at the Food Justice Picnic on August 17. Thank you to everyone who joined the party!
Amid forecasts of storms, we were grateful for the pleasant sometimes-sunny, sometimes-overcast weather that included one wild moment of rain coming down in full sunlight. The picnic was an opportunity to relax, connect, and refresh ourselves with delicious food and drink. We were transported to another world through the musical performances of Erika Lundahl and Inland Seaway, and took a little break from the bustle of everyday life to play different games. Many guests enthusiastically played Food Justice Bingo, searching for plants in the P-Patch and learning about what food sovereignty meant to each other – some even tried to fill out the entire card! A giant Jenga set offered some engineering enthusiasts the chance to defy gravity before the blocks all came clattering down, only to be built back up again. Huge appreciation to everyone who participated in the Foraging for Justice Scavenger Hunt! Guests braved the park to seek out ingredients to feed the community, bringing home the goods, and hopefully learning a little something along the way.
Thanks to everyone who brought delicious food to share! Special thanks to PCC Community Markets for helping out with delicious beverages, and to the Knutsen family who run Loki Fish Co. for their donation of smoked salmon. Please support Loki Fish Co. at local Farmers Markets – University District on Saturdays and West Seattle on Sundays!
We are so grateful for the longtime community solidarity of UFCW 3000, and to MOHAI for showing up as we begin our collaboration to mark the 25th anniversary of the WTO protests this Fall.
To all who joined: Your support makes #FoodJustice and #FoodSovereignty possible!
