Act Now or Kiss Your Organics Goodbye!

“After years of bureaucratic wrangling, Secretary Vilsack and the Obama administration are only days away from approving Monsanto’s genetically modified (GMO) alfalfa. If approved, GMO alfalfa will fundamentally undermine the entire organic industry overnight. In addition, the USDA says American consumers don’t care about the contamination of organics.

Please join us in calling on Secretary Vilsack and President Obama to stand up for organic family farmers by rejecting the approval of Monsanto’s GMO alfalfa. Tell them to protect organic integrity and seed biodiversity over corporate profits.”

  1. I have been watching the progress of this application for some time now and I can safely say without fear of being proved wrong that co-existence is impossible. The science of this proposal is incontrovertible in its assertion that contamination will occur from the close proximity of GMO crops to non-GMO crops. The buffer zone is a total nonsense idea and I have stated this already elsewhere in other messages against co-existence. There is no way you can segregate these crops in the wild. Aside from insect action on the transfer of pollen, unless colony collapse disorder is a deliberate attempt at decimating insects to facilitate co-existence, there is the wind and weather conditions in general to take into account. Then there is human activity. So how can it take so long to say ‘NO’ in the face of such compelling evidence that proves the contamination effect will occur? You already have super weeds and wild GMO plants cross pollinated from other GMO crops developed in the laboratory. How much more natural environment do you intend to destroy permanently before you realise that what you are in support of is wrong? It is a no-brainer decision. The only benefit is so short term as to be totally useless and suicidal to take. The long term destruction will leave a lasting legacy that will claim many millions of lives when all the oil derived chemicals exceed the cost that the farmers can afford based on the cost that the people are prepared to pay for food. With no other alternatives to the food produced in this way the people will either starve or die or worse still anarchy will ensue.
Now I know the truth behind the bio-tech industry plans and they are not worth the brain power to consider them.
You cannot eat money but you can eat food produce organically that does not require oil derived chemical inputs to grow.

You will destroy the organic food industry totally at a time when the people are making the greatest demands on it. Organic farming is capable of feeding the global population but its up to the government to stand firm and say no to anything that threatens to undermine Organic agriculture.
