Join CAGJ to celebrate the Food Sovereignty Prize, awarded by the US Food Sovereignty Alliance! CAGJ will gather for Happy Hour and refreshments to watch the livstream of the ceremony, which is hosted by USFSA's Midwest Region during their assembly in Ferguson, Missouri. The ceremony features representatives of each of the Prize winners, Richmond, CA-based Urban Tilth (domestic) and Venezuela-based Plan Pueblo a Pueblo (international), who will speak about their organizing.
We will gather at 5pm, and the ceremony will take place 5:30 - 7pm. Wine and non-alcoholic beverages will be provided. We hope to be joined by fellow winners of the Food Sovereignty Prize, organizers with NAMA (North American Marine Alliance, a fisherman-led organization who will be in the Northwest during their American the Bountiful Tour!
The Food Sovereignty Prize in the alternative to the World Food Prize. The Prize highlights how grassroots-driven social movements confront corporate control over food, seeds, land, water, labor, knowledge, supply chains, and policy-making. The Prize celebrates grassroots protagonists who persistently work toward ending poverty, localizing food systems, and democratizing politics and economics to benefit farmers, fisherfolk, food chain workers, and consumers.
