Out of that powerful week of protests\, many were inspired to create a new kind of radical organizing in Seattle\, and 23 years ago\, CAGJ created our alliance that includes environmentalists\, sustainable agriculture advocates\, unionists and global justice activists. \nToday we are at a key juncture for CAGJ\, due to a number of intersecting events. The Steering Committee and other leaders have been deliberating about how to move forward with a smaller financial base and lack of new leadership. At the same time\, over the next few months\, our Director Heather Day will be stepping down to pursue new horizons. \nOur future belongs to CAGJ’s members! We invite you to join a collective of CAGJ volunteers who will take leadership while opening up space for new ideas about the future of CAGJ. DESCRIPTION:Africa-US Seed Sovereignty Strategy Meeting \nMarch 21\, 2023 via Zoom \n9am PST/12pm EST/4pm Senegal/6pm Zambia/7pm Kenya \nThe session will last 1.5 hours. \nYou are invited to the 2nd part of our series* to strengthen our solidarity with African Food Sovereignty Movements\, and to build transnational strategies to defend and promote native seeds. \nRegister now \nPresenters:\nFrances Davies\, Zambia Alliance for Agroecology and Biodiversity (ZAAB)\nFamara Diédhiou\, Alliance for Food Sovereignty in Africa \nMembers of the Seed Working Group and staff of Alliance for Food Sovereignty in Africa (AFSA) will give a report on their plans for 2023\, including the goal of organizing a continental campaign for seed sovereignty. The US food sovereignty movement has a role to play in countering the aggressive push for seed privatization on the continent by USAID\, AGRA (formerly known as Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa) and the Gates Foundation\, and defending native seeds and agroecology everywhere. Thus\, we aim to host a conversation with US activists aiming to work together transnationally with our African counterparts. \nThis meeting is co-hosted by Community Alliance for Global Justice/AGRA Watch & US Food Sovereignty Alliance. \n*The first part was the Report-back on Feb. 1 about AFSA’s Africa Food Systems Conference in Cameroon\, by Malik Yakini and Heather Day.
