April is Membership Month
CAGJ is Grounded & Growing

2021 is CAGJ's 20th anniversary! We are reflecting on our roots as well as what future we envision in our work. Since our formation out of the historic WTO protests, CAGJ has continued to grow through our struggle for food sovereignty. However, our work over the last 20 years would have been impossible without CAGJ’s community of members who propel our efforts toward a more liberated future. Plug into Membership Month today to help CAGJ continue growing!

This year, we aim to raise $20k and increase membership by 10%. Thanks to UFCW 21 and generous members, all donations up to 10k are matched! Help us reach our goals by donating here - any donation amount is appreciated and comes with an automatic Membership. Please consider becoming a Sustainer by funding our fight for food sovereignty on a regular, monthly basis. If you are unable to donate, no worries! Join CAGJ’s community today by signing up to become a Member at no cost. We value every level of involvement!

City, County & State Matching funds: If you are an employee of Washington State, King County, or the City of Seattle, ask us about making a pre-tax donation through employee matching funds programs!

We just published a beautiful 2020 Annual Report, available for viewing on our website!

Stand Up for Hazard Pay!
Kroger is threatening to close QFC stores in Seattle (Capitol Hill and Wedgewood) and possibly many more across the state because of Hazard Pay - saying that despite literally doubling their profits they can’t afford to pay workers anymore. PCC is ignoring its commitment to co-op values by lobbying the mayor of Seattle to vote against Hazard Pay, and is now fighting our members and community partners at the bargaining table on basic organizing rights and issues of racial and gender equity.

  • QFC: We Will Not Be Bullied!
    Thurs, April 8, 11:00AM
Wedgewood QFC store: 8400 35th Ave NE, Seattle, WA 98115
  • PCC: Get Back to Your Roots! Informational Pickets at stores
Wednesday, April 14, 12-2 PM Edmonds & Seattle Central District PCC, 3-5 PM Bellevue & Seattle Columbia City. Please follow this link to RSVP for solidarity actions across King County!

End Vaccine Apartheid! Pressure your Congressperson to Speak Out!
Support the Waiver of Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS) at the WTO

Please fill out this Google Form to learn how to influence your Member of Congress on this life-or-death issue. You will be contacted shortly after by trade justice organizers for support!

The global community urgently needs your voice to pressure the Biden Administration in favor of vaccine equity! The White House is actively considering supporting the “Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights” (TRIPS) waiver at the WTO. This waiver is a crucial step in removing unnecessary barriers to scaling up global vaccine production. The longer widespread vaccine access is limited to rich nations, the more time there is for viral mutations to develop that don’t respond to current vaccines.

None of us are safe until we are all safe! Please pressure your Member of Congress to put human lives over private pharmaceutical profits!

For more info: Watch the TRIPS Waiver Emergency Briefing. Among the panelists is Hillary Haden of WA Fair Trade Coalition, of which CAGJ is a member. See also: TRIPS Waiver Talking Points, a More-Detailed Policy Brief, and the 400+ Group Civil Society Letter in support of the waiver.

The Guardian: Farmers and rights groups boycott food summit over big business links
Focus on agro-business rather than ecology has split groups invited to plan UN conference on hunger
"An international food summit to address growing hunger and diet-related disease is in disarray as hundreds of farmers’ and human rights groups are planning a boycott. The head of the food systems summit, due to take place in September, has made an emotional appeal for unity and the UN’s own advisers are urging a rethink of the way it is run." Keep reading.

A Call to Address Climate Change: Food Producer Perspectives on the Path Forward
This webinar will focus on grassroot concerns about carbon markets in agriculture. As the climate crisis increasingly impacts rural communities in the U.S., corporate capture of the climate agenda threatens to undermine efforts to hold polluters accountable and bolster resilience in rural communities. Featuring farmer and producer advocate voices from across the food system, this webinar will identify key pitfalls of carbon trading schemes and highlight the importance of existing agricultural conservation programs for reducing emissions and supporting family-scale agriculture.

Presented by The National Family Farm Coalition, Friends of the Earth US, Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy, and Organic Consumers Association. Register to receive Zoom link.
