Tell food service companies and restaurants to keep unlabeled GMO salmon off our plates!

All communities deserve and need a food system that is healthy, safe and protects our environment. But right now, our food system and wild salmon face a new threat -- GMO salmon, the first genetically engineered animal allowed to be sold for food, could end up on our plates as soon as this fall. Take action to stop GMO salmon from being sold to food service companies.

To whom it may concern:

I support truly sustainable seafood. But genetically engineered salmon, which may be available for sale this fall, could put wild salmon, communities and our health at risk.

Polls show that the overwhelming majority of consumers don’t want to eat genetically engineered salmon or animals. A growing body of science suggests that GMO salmon may pose serious environmental and public health risks, including potentially irreversible damage to wild salmon populations.

This is the first GMO animal to enter our food system, and it was approved by the FDA under a flawed process that was meant to assess the safety of “animal drugs,” not brand-new GMO animals meant for human consumption.

Additionally, most GMO salmon likely won’t carry clear on-package labels stating they are GMO, nor are they required to be labeled as GMO on restaurant menus, making it difficult for consumers like me to avoid purchasing them.

I am calling on your company to make a commitment to not sell genetically engineered salmon and other genetically engineered seafood.

Now that GMO salmon are being allowed on the U.S. market, your company’s commitment is more important than ever! Please make a commitment and join the over 80 food retailers, the food service giant Sodexo, restaurant chains and restaurants that have already committed to not sell GMO salmon or other GMO seafood.
